Geocache Description:

Beautifully renovated old shooting gallery building, now part of a popular cake shop and restaurant.

Budapest's XVIII. district has a very popular cake shop and restaurant, the Zila, which hides a lovely old building from the first few years of the XXth century. It opened in 1905 as a shooting gallery for the enjoyment and edification of the local gentry. Over the decades it changed many times. Until the First World War it was used by sportsmen and soldiers, then during the war it acted as a military training facility.  In the late 1920's the outside range was closed and by the Second World War, by which time Pestszentlőrinc became a town, shooting had ceased. After that war the town wanted to build a swimming pool in its place and it was almost demolished. It was saved from that fate, but when the swimming pool was built it became its changing rooms. By the end of the XXth century it was in a very sorry state.  The owner of the nearby Krisztina cake shop bought it and painstakingly renovated it to its present day glory.

The cache measures 19cm x 13cm x 9cm. The co-ordinates show the entrance to the cake shop/restaurant and the cache is with the manageress. You can ask for it in opening hours, which are 10am - 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am - 9pm on Sundays. Upon request she will present it, but while waiting you can try one of their gorgeous cakes, or cups of coffee, or even a full meal. It is all of excellent quality, you will not be disappointed.
